Visitors can also explore the historic Burns Trail or other attractions dedicated to Scotland’s rich history, for example Viking invaders, Betsy Miller, reputedly the first female sea captain, or hop on the ferry to Millport.
Irvine and Dreghorn have a history stretching back to Neolithic times and Dreghorn is possibly the oldest continually inhabited village in Europe.
The harbourside walk enjoys various features with an SSSI across the bay, plus a Scottish Maritime Museum which includes the oldest sea-going private steam yacht and the last Clyde “puffer”; reminders of Irvine's former prominence as a seaport. From the harbour, access Irvine’s sand dunes and expansive beach, linking to those at Barassie, Troon and beyond.
