Summary
The cottage is well-decorated and equipped, providing a comfortable and homely atmosphere with stunning views. Guests appreciated the cleanliness and facilities, noting the steep access as a challenge for some. Minor issues included a small fridge for larger groups and lack of certain TV options. Overall, a highly enjoyable stay.
The property
Nestled in a fantastic, elevated location, overlooking the picturesque Dee Valley and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a World Heritage Site, is Alwyn Cottage. This idyllic Welsh cottage in the heart of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Beauty, boasts a truly unique and unforgettable location, a wonderful patio with furniture where you can soak up the panoramic views, a homely interior boasting character features and three well-appointed bedrooms perfect for families and friends looking to explore the wonders of North Wales. Cross the threshold into your new home-from-home and step straight into the fully-equipped kitchen where you can rustle up delicious meals for the whole family that can be enjoyed around the dining table. Later, enjoy drinks outside on the patio where you can raise a toast to your holiday before relaxing in front of the crackling wood burning stove and the smart TV. When the sky darkens, climb the stairs to wash off the day’s adventures in the sleek shower room before sloping off to sleep in the king-size, the ground-floor double with en-suite shower or the bunk room. If you can tear yourself away from this idyllic property, explore the wonderful walks upon your doorstep and treat yourself to a well earned meal in the Aqueduct Inn. Or, if you're feeling brave, why not walk over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and have a meal at the Telford Inn? Be sure to visit the full 11 miles of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage site taking in the Chirk Aqueduct, Viaduct and Tunnel as well as the beautiful Horseshoe Falls near Llangollen. Outdoor enthusiasts will be in their element as nearby Llangollen houses endless walking and cycling opportunities through the countryside or along the canal and unique chances to take to the river on kayaks and canoes. Other temptations include the famed Llangollen railway, the Llangollen Museum and Plas Newydd Historic House and Gardens, home to the infamous ‘Ladies of Llangollen’. Notable nearby attractions also include the National Trust Site of Chirk Castle and Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park where guests can lose themselves amidst the abundance of trails or even hike the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon)!
