Popular with tourists all year round, this location has a fascinating history and there are a number of attractive picnic areas making it the ideal place to stop off and stay awhile. Take a trip to Tollymore Forest Park, which boasts 630 hectares of woodlands and stunning views of the Mourne Mountains. Magical forest and woodland await with some of the oldest trees you’ll find anywhere, dating back as early as 1750. No visit to Donegal would be complete without heading to Glenveagh National Park with its rugged landscapes and some of the most interesting wildlife and bird life you’ll find anywhere. Bring along your binoculars and see if you can catch sight of a golden eagle or a peregrine falcon. Take a hike along any number of trails making sure you take in the Victorian Castle and Gardens which are something of a Mecca for keen gardeners who come from far and wide. Towns and villages worth heading to for an outing including Fanad, Portsalon, Portnablahy and Dunfanghy.
