The Sleepy Shell

The Sleepy Shell is a delightful holiday cottage situated in The Gaeltacht region of Ballydavid (Baile na nGall). This is a majestic area comprised of three adjoining villages Ballydavid, Feohanagh and Murreagh. It is 10 km outside the world famous town of Dingle. This cosy little house is the perfect compact getaway particularly for young families, or for anyone looking for an outdoorsy holiday. Small on space but big on style, it’s a fun and happy base for days at the stunning local beach. Behind the doors of The Sleepy Shell you will be greeted by three cosy bedrooms, all with wood floors. There are two doubles and a triple bunk room, perfect for accommodating a variety of group needs. The triple bunk room features a double bed below and a single above, providing a flexible sleeping arrangement. A bed rail is available if required for small children. All the rooms are styled with stylish but practical furniture and are all equipped with, mirrors, hairdryers, bedside storage and reading lights. The main living space is a bright and cheerful room filled with light from the large windows that overlook the generous front garden. Quirky art and contemporary furnishings give this getaway a fun and lively vibe, and the cosiness is provided by the wood burning stove, that quickly heats the space. This house was detailed with young families in mind. The coffee table lifts off to reveal a cornucopia of colouring materials, dolls, cars, puzzles, and games to keep little ones happy which we hope will give the adults the quiet time they too deserve. The kitchen is compact but designed with the home cook in mind. From baking tins and mixing bowls, to waffle/toastie maker, there is nothing this little kitchen can’t help you prepare. It of course has the basics - four ring electric hob, fan assisted electric oven, microwave, double toaster (four slice) and generous fridge freezer, as well as a large load washer dryer. Clever storage makes the most of the space. All your kitchen creations can be served at the large dining table that seats 6-8 people. Revitalise yourself in the sleek shower room with double width shower tray and electric shower, heated towel rack, WC and sink. A toilet step is provided for small children, and a baby bath is stored in the bathroom cupboard. Step out into the enclosed front garden, where you can sip your morning coffee on the patio or perhaps enjoy a bit of alfresco dining on the wooden picnic table as the evenings grow warmer. With private driveway and parking for four cars, this family-friendly retreat welcomes two well-behaved pets, offering an ideal escape for families or friends seeking a coastal getaway. Muiríoch Beach is situated on the eastern edge of Smerwick Harbour and offers spectacular scenery on a clear day. This is a unique and special place where you can enjoy soaking up the beauty of The Three Sisters, especially at sunset. This beach is also popular for swimming and sea angling. It takes about 55 mins to walk from one end to the other. Venture out from your tranquil oasis to discover the intriguing, history-rich attractions found in the local area. The 38km Slea Head drive is considered one of Ireland's most scenic coastal roads which takes you West through Dunquin, Ballyferriter, Ballydavid and then loops back to Dingle. Explore the ruins of Cill Maoilchéadair, an ancient monastery which bears witness to Ireland's early Christian heritage. Fancy a pint? Visit Tig Bhric & West Kerry Brewery for a refreshing local brew or simply soak in the atmosphere. Journey back in time with a visit to the meticulously preserved Riasc Monastic Settlement and the captivating displays of artefacts at Músaem Chorca Dhuibhne. Uncover spiritual solace at the 1000 year old Gallarus Oratory and end your day watching the sun set over Smerwick Harbour, with its dramatic cliffs and white sandy beaches, this is a picturesque haven for seafaring vessels. There is something for everyone with archeological sites, incredible walks, great swimming and snorkelling at the Pier in Ballydavid, surfing, fishing, excellent fish restaurants and lively pubs.
