The property

Named one of the 20 Best Self-Catering Stays in the UK by The Guardian, this 18th-century Georgian farmhouse sits within four acres of private grounds in the Tamar Valley. Framed by natural meadows, gardens and lawns, the setting offers winding paths, peaceful seating spots and sweeping views across the hills. Keep an eye out for rabbits and hares, forage for blackberries in season, or simply settle in with a book and enjoy the calm of the countryside.

Inside, you’ll find a thoughtful blend of period charm and contemporary touches. Original features include flagstone floors, thick walls, sash windows and exposed beams.

The kitchen has a breakfast table for 4 is fitted with wooden shaker-style cabinetry, a handsome range cooker with 6-ring gas hob, larder fridge, slimline dishwasher, coffee machine and all the equipment you need for preparing hearty meals. Adjoining this is the light-filled open-plan living and dining room with door to the garden. Gather around the lovely oak farmhouse dining table and benches for long suppers, or on cooler evenings, curl up on the sofas in the sitting room with a film by the woodburner. The handy utility room houses a large fridge freezer and washing machine and back door to the garden. Countryside views pour in from nearly every room.

Upstairs, the three bedrooms carry the same character and comfort. The master has a double bed, two sash windows with idyllic views, and plenty of storage. The generous twin bedroom keeps many original features and provides a desk for those mixing work with leisure. The third bedroom is a single, also with storage. A shared family bathroom with bath and shower above plus hand shower attachment completes the layout.

Step outside and the grounds open up like your own private haven. Meadows and lawns stretch around the house, much left wild to encourage wildlife with mown paths and walkways leading to quiet corners and open views. At the heart of the garden is a broad covered decking area, perfect for morning coffee, relaxed lunches in the fresh air, or evening barbecues with a cold drink and a game of table tennis under the lights.

Conveniently placed for exploring both Cornwall’s north and south coasts, you’ll have easy access to some of the county’s most striking stretches of coastline, as well as local highlights to discover nearby. Nearby Tavistock offers lively markets and riverside walks, while National Trust treasures such as Cotehele House and Garden provide a glimpse into the region’s heritage. For days further afield, Dartmoor National Park beckons with its wild landscapes, and both the north and south coasts of Cornwall are within easy reach for exploring sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs.

With space for children to run and play, and plenty of quiet spots for grown-ups to unwind, the outdoor setting is as versatile as it is beautiful. Whether it’s summer sunshine or crisp winter mornings, this country retreat is made for gathering, relaxing, and making memories together.
