Summary
The property offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere with ample space for guests. It has a well-stocked kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and a good location near the beach. However, cleanliness issues were noted, including dirty appliances and need for maintenance. Parking can be limited at times.
The property
Thatched Cottage has a great deal of period charm, with a beautiful, secluded garden, it sits on a village road within a short walk of both the sea and local amenities. It is a Grade II listed three-bedroomed house sleeping up to six guests. Located in the coastal village of Charmouth, the property is ideally situated for those looking for a holiday on the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast.
The house has a comfortable sitting room to the front of the property. The kitchen has a farmhouse style to it with its Welsh dresser and views across the garden to the field beyond. The farmhouse type table and chairs are welcoming and make for a relaxing space for the family to enjoy their meals together, whilst the fitted kitchen and appliances lend it a modernity. A utility / cloakroom on the ground floor is particularly useful when coming in from the beach. The staircase leads to a half landing where you will find the delightful conservatory, allowing you to sit quietly with your morning cup of tea or evening drink, looking out onto the pretty cottage garden and hillside beyond. The family bathroom with its roll-top bath and separate shower is also on this floor. Continue up the stairs to reach the three bedrooms: to the front of the house a king-size bedroom and a double bedroom, both of which enjoy views of the rural Dorset countryside. You can look across the roof tops to the rural countryside. The twin bedroom, at the rear of the house, has an intriguing stable door and looks out over the garden.
The garden of Thatched Cottage is a real delight with its lawn, mature planting and shrubs that include roses, hydrangeas and honeysuckle. A raised terrace with table and chairs, sheltered by a stone wall, is the perfect spot to sit and eat should weather allow, and to take in the views across Charmouth to the sea in the distance.
Being so close to the coast, you’ll want to head out to explore the town and coast of Charmouth. A short walk will take you to a good selection of local shops and village pubs, and the beaches. Renowned for its fossils, you can learn about the areas rich geological history at the Heritage Centre on the seafront, before trying to find your own fossils or mermaid’s tears on the beaches. Popular with walkers, the breathtaking South West coastal footpath passes through Charmouth and takes in sites of special interest such as Golden Cap and Stonebarrow. Why not head to neighbouring Lyme Regis with its iconic Cobb harbour, where you will find a great choice of eateries and galleries as well as visitor attractions including Lyme Regis Aquarium, The Marine theatre and town museum. Other places to visit for a family day out include Seaton with its mile long beach, Wetlands Centre and tramway, where you can hop onboard for a journey along the River Axe. Other family favourites include the picturesque fishing village of Beer or the Axe Valley Animal Park, a compact zoo is home to a variety of animals from around the world.
So, whether you are looking for a family seaside holiday, or wanting to explore this coastline on foot, you can enjoy this and more at the Thatched Cottage.
