Yarpole 2.7 miles. The Smithy is a charming, detached, Grade II-listed Black and White cottage, situated near the village of Lucton, close to Yarpole, in Herefordshire. From here, climb the stairs to the first floor and discover the bright and airy double bedroom in which to relax after a day exploring the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. Outside, the enclosed patio makes for an ideal space to relax whilst sipping a refreshing drink on a summer’s evening. Lucton is a tranquil hamlet which boasts several Black and White cottages, an ancient earthwork, and is surrounded by several lovely villages which are steeped in history, such as Shobdon with its Baroque church. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, the lovely village of Yarpole is steeped in history and boasts a fine selection of shops selling delicious cheeses, and The Bell Inn, a family pub with a roaring fire serving food and good ales. For those who enjoy walking and cycling, the area surrounding Yarpole offers many excellent routes, taking in superb views of the rolling countryside and dotted with traditional pubs. For a great day out, visit one of the interesting National Trust properties close by, including Croft Castle and Berrington Hall, whilst there are many unspoilt villages within driving distance along the Black and White Village Trail, not to mention Leominster, Ludlow, and the delightful Shropshire Hills.
