For the more active, climb the steep smooth flanks and grassy slopes of Skiddaw, an excellent route for those looking to extend their experience of the higher peaks, or take a neighbouring path into Porthinscale where a ramble to Derwentwater would lead you to a local jetty for a cruise on the lake. If shopping is on your agenda, head into Keswick and browse the independent stores, outdoor clothing shops and weekly markets that offer a chance to sample some local delicacies or book a table at one of the many well-established restaurants if you fancy a night off from cooking.
