Summary
The cottage is praised for its cozy, clean, and well-equipped environment, with thoughtful extras and great decor. Guests appreciated the location, being close to town, and the friendly host's helpfulness. The accommodations are described as comfortable, perfect for both relaxation and exploring, including dog-friendly options.
The property
Gosling Cottage is a lovely traditional stone cottage that sits in a conservation area near the River Kent. Sleeping two guests, this property provides the ideal couples' retreat in the pretty
ancient market town of Kendal.
The cottage is situated down a quiet little lane, and yet the town centre is just a short five minutes walk over an historic bridge making this an ideal location.
This "gateway to the Lakes" dog friendly cottage sits right on the border of the Lake District, England's largest National Park, and provides a perfect base to explore this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage site.
Make your way to your new holiday home through the cottage garden and be greeted by the cosy sitting room with its original stone-flagged floor and exposed stone wall. Relax in front of the woodburning stove with smart TV and free WiFi. A wonderful mix of cottage charm and modern amenities.
Moving through the property you will find a well equipped kitchen and dining space, providing everything you need to cook up a feast.
The market town has a variety of shops and boasts many 'award winning' local artisan food producers from bakers to micro brewers. Not in the mood to cook? Not a problem, explore Kendal's high street and historic yards to find its cafes, restaurants and bars where you can enjoy traditional roasts to tapas!
After your meal or a day out walking, take a soak in the roll-top bath before getting under luxurious quality linen of the king-size bed for your night’s rest, leaving you refreshed and ready for the next day.
Kendal offers a whole host of things to do and sights to see. Head to the Brewery Arts Centre for live music, comedy, festival or a film. Visit the Abbott Hall Art Gallery, Kendal Museum. Feeling sporty? Hit the dry ski slope or visit the Lakeland Climbing Centre, with extensive
bouldering and the country's highest indoor climbing wall. The Lake District is said to be the birthplace of climbing in the UK, and there is easy access to outdoor climbing in the Lakes or
Yorkshire Dales. For great views of Kendal and surrounding countryside take a short walk to the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle with links to Catherine Parr, which sits just behind the cottage; or wander along the river in the hopes of spotting an otter or kingfisher. There's plenty to keep you
busy locally.
A short drive away explore Sizergh Castle (NT) or Levens Hall with the world's oldest topiary gardens. Visit Hill Top the home of Beatrix Potter. Cruise or sail on Windermere the largest lake in England or enjoy your favourite watersports, with equipment such as canoes and paddleboards available for hire from Fell Foot (NT).
Be sure to visit the many other lakes of the Lake District National Park, such as Buttermere, Ullswater, Coniston Water and more. A trip to the Lake District isn't complete without a walk on one of the many fells around the national park, be it Orrest Head or Helvellyn. Gosling Cottage has lots of maps, suggested walks and guidebooks to suit all abilities, including a full set of Wainwright's guides to help you explore the fells. We can even lend you a set of walking poles. Don't forget to take some Kendal Mint Cake, which is still produced in the town. You will find a bar waiting for you, and a few dog treats, so no one is forgotten.
Kendal Train Station is only a 5-minute walk, from where you can be in Windermere in 15 minutes. The main Bus Station is only an 8-minute walk and with lots of buses taking you into the Lakes, it's easy to go car-free.
All of this and much more awaits you at the highly rated Gosling Cottage.
