For those looking for walking routes, Helm Crag, Loughrigg Fell, the Fairfield Horseshoe and Wansfell are all easily reached. Hop on the Windermere steamer and enjoy a 1-hour circular route with unbroken views of mountain scenery, secluded bays and many wooded islands. Explore the extensive grounds of Wray Castle, a mock-Gothic castle which has a huge, largely undiscovered gravel beach of its own, and was Beatrix Potter’s first Lakeland holiday home at the age of 16. Slightly further afield, in picturesque scenery, is Grasmere with the lake, along with Keswick, Coniston and Hawkshead to name a few.
