The Annandale Distillery lies just outside the centre and produces a fine single malt whiskey and you can see how it's made by going on a tour around the distillery and receiving a few tasters along the way too. Head to Westlands Country Park to enjoy a spot of fishing for any keen anglers out there, with two ponds stocked with local rainbow, blue and tiger trout and a shooting range on site too with taster lessons available for beginners. Over towards Dumfries is Caerlaverock Castle, one of Scotland's great medieval fortresses, surrounded by a moat and boasting a twin towered gatehouse, it is home to a lovely tearooms.
