The property
This property has been awarded Silver for Best Couples Retreat!
Thornton Dale 12 miles. Nestled at the head of a beautiful valley in the North York Moors National Park bordering both Dalby Forest and National Trust Moorland. This is a great place for anyone just wanting to relax and let the world disappear for a few days. Alternatively use it as a base for walking, biking or touring the National Park and coastline. It is mountain bike heaven with the world class cycle routes within Dalby Forest on the doorstep and easy access to Newtondale for those wanting Enduro terrain. Walkers have miles of open countryside and forest to explore including The Bridestones, Hole of Horcum and Blakey Topping. There are beautiful surroundings for those wishing to just relax on site by the stream and woodland or just walk through the gate onto open moorland. This 5-star accommodation is in a newly converted barn sitting in a small orchard with panoramic views down the valley. The private rear patio enjoys beautiful sunsets and is an ideal place for an evening BBQ or dip in the hot tub and stargazing. The contemporary open-plan interior has exposed feature stonework, beams and oak floor. The log-burner has a plentiful supply of wood to enjoy on any cooler evenings. The fully fitted kitchen and large shower room are to a high specification. There is smart TV with Netflix and wi-fi for entertainment or just enjoy a good book or a board game. There is plenty to do on site to relax including photography and painting or you could potentially help the owners with their work on the smallholding and feed the array of friendly animals including donkeys, pony, guinea fowl, ducks, hens and sheep. Country pubs, some with great food are within half an hour’s ride. Just a short drive from the property, you’ll find the award-winning Cedar Barn farm shop and café/restaurant, complete with a children’s play area. A couple of miles further on lies the market town of Pickering, home to the North Yorkshire Moors Heritage Railway, which winds its way across the moors to Whitby. Along the route, it passes through Newtondale, often called ‘Yorkshire’s own Grand Canyon’, and stops at Goathland, famously known as the setting for Heartbeat. Helmsley, with its historic castle, and Malton, Yorkshire’s food capital, are also well worth a visit. For a family day out, you might enjoy Eden Camp, Flamingo Land or Castle Howard. The coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby are easily reached, or you could head to one of our favourite spots, Robin Hood’s Bay, Boggle Hole, Sandsend or Rievaulx Abbey.
