With road and mountain bike hire and repair in Reeth, and the 2014 Tour de France route close by, there's no excuse not to get out and about on your bike. Nearby Reeth, with its pretty village green, offers traditional local inns, a scattering of shops and delightful tea rooms. Enjoy a peaceful walk by the river, or through the wildflower hay meadows, which takes in part of the Coast to-Coast long distance trail, or do some birdwatching in the unspoilt countryside. The thriving market town of Richmond lies ten miles from this Reeth cottage and has varied amenities, including a golf course, museums and antiquarian bookshops, as well as a unique Georgian theatre. The centrally-located castle ruins afford majestic views from the steep-sided footpath to the turbulent River Swale, far below.
