Recently named Britain’s most romantic ruin, is Whitby Abbey, set on a cliff overlooking the town, holding over 2,000 years of history in its stone walls, home of saints, a king’s burial place and the inspiration for Bram Stoker, author of Dracula, this abbey is a must see for those interested in English heritage. The town is surrounded by the North York Moors and is a haven for walkers with plenty of signposted and maintained routes available for those visiting, with opportunities to hire bikes or explore via horse-back riding as well so there is surely something to suit everyone.
