Summary
The cottage is comfortable, well-equipped, and in a pleasant location ideal for exploring. Guests enjoyed the peaceful setting, nearby walks, and a good garden. Drawbacks include a single bathroom, a long-running bathroom fan, and potential heating concerns. Overall, it serves as a great base for visits.
The property
Wrapped up in the luscious greenery of the Scottish countryside on the outskirts of Melrose town, is this idyllic cottage, Kirklands Garden House. Set across the ground-floor, this homely and traditional abode provides a beautiful base from which a family or group of six can discover this exceptional part of the country. Spend your evenings snuggled up on the sumptuous sofas as you watch entertaining movies on the Smart TV or cosy up in the inviting armchair and enjoy the heat of the flames from the woodburning stove. Cross on over to the charming galley kitchen and prepare a hearty home-cooked meal for the whole family to enjoy whilst gathered at the rustic wood dining table, cracking open a bottle of bubbly and toasting to the good times ahead. Whisk yourself away to the family bathroom and indulge in a relaxing soak in the spacious bath tub, or get ready for the day ahead with a brisk rinse under the overhead shower. Make yourself feel right at home in one of the three delightfully decorated bedrooms comprised of a king-size and two twins, as you unpack your belongings into the storage space provided before allowing your head to hit the pillow. Spend warm summer days basking in the sunshine out in the garden, as the chef of the group takes to the barbecue to prepare a mouth-watering feast whilst you sip on a delicious glass of wine. Leave behind this lovely abode as you venture along the River Tweed and along the quiet country lanes to Scott's View, where you will be rewarded with breath-taking views across the countryside. The river Leader can be easily accessed from the cottage and there are excellent opportunities for local walking. There are also excellent local restaurants in both Gattonside and Melrose ( a 5 minute drive away). Abbotsford House, home of Sir Walter Scott is another popular local attraction with stately home, an abundance of walks, shop and a restaurant. Thirlestane and Floors Castles are both within a half hours drive and well worth a visit. See the imposing Leaderfoot Viaduct as you cross on over to the centre of Melrose and discover Melrose Gardens, The Trimontium Museum Trust and the medieval remains of Melrose Abbey. Explore the National Trust for Scotland's Priorwood Garden, or take your four-legged friends for a stroll around Dryburgh Abbey. Spot Smailholm Tower and William Wallace Statue as you venture through the wonderful terrains of Bemersyde Moss, or admire the grandeur of the 19th -century architecture of Bowhill House. Meet friendly Alpaca at Beirhope Alpacas, or travel to the magnificent city of Edinburgh for a day at Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh Castle and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. A pleasant drive away, the coastal town of Eyemouth offers an excellent day out for the whole family to enjoy with attractions such as the Eyemouth Museum, Gunsgreen House, and the Eyemouth Rib Trips. Spend precious time with loved ones on an escape to Kirklands Garden House. EPC Rating: Band E
