Summary
The cottage is well-received for its cleanliness, comfortable amenities, and excellent location near pubs and walking trails. Guests appreciated the welcome pack and found the kitchen well-equipped. Some noted issues with mattress comfort, bathroom wear, and absence of a hairdryer, but overall, the stay was enjoyable.
The property
Rugeley 6.2 miles. Set on a private lane, just off the high street in the village of Abbots Bromley near Rugeley, is this attractive, single-storey, detached cottage, Church View Cottage. Just up the lane are several fields, while the high street is at the other end, plus the Staffordshire Way runs close by, meaning this property is well-placed for a couple who enjoy walking and want to explore their rural surroundings. The gated driveway offers parking for up to four vehicles, and your dog can run around safely in the enclosed front garden. Step inside the property to find an open-plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen, complete with fridge/freezer, electric oven, microwave, kettle and toaster and a washing machine, should you need to clean any clothes. There is a small, extendable dining table with seating for two, so you can enjoy a romantic home-cooked meal together, while the sitting room has a sofa you can relax on with a good book or to enjoy something on the wall-mounted Smart TV. The double bedroom is bright and spacious, and has a travel cot available should you need it, there is also plenty of hanging and storage space for your belongings and the recently fitted, white-tiled bathroom has a shower over bath, so you can choose how you prefer to get ready each day. The nearby field are great for dog walking, while Abbots Bromley centre has a selection of shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy, as well as a village hall, cricket club and children's playground. Abbots Bromley is perhaps best known for the Horn dance; an annual quintessentially English folk dance dating back to the Middle Ages. Six miles away is the market town of Rugeley, with ample wonderful dining out opportunities and fantastic markets where you can pick up local produce, should you wish to cook at home instead. Formerly known for its iron workings and glass manufacturing, the town is very popular with tourists and provides a gateway into the Cannock Chase AONB, where you can visit the stately home of the National Trust's Shugborough Estate, enjoy an adventure day out, swinging through the treetops at at Go Ape Channock, plus enjoy a multitude of stunning walking and cycling trails, as well as many outdoor activities through forest, parkland and elevated heaths. Join the Staffordshire Way, which spans the length of the county for 92 miles and even links to the Cheshire Gritstone Trail, the Heart of England Way and the North Worcestershire Path and enjoy walking by the water at nearby Blithfield Reservoir. The town of Stafford is slightly further afield, with excellent shopping and dining out opportunities, as well as a timber-framed, Tudor museum and 900-year-old castle. With fantastic walking and sight-seeing opportunities available to you, make Church View Cottage your cosy couple's retreat for your next Staffordshire getaway.
