The property
This semi-detached stone cottage, dating back to 1854, adjoins the owner’s home and is situated down a country lane on the outskirts of Penistone in South Yorkshire. Beautifully-appointed and tastefully furnished, St John's Cottage offers comfortable accommodation for couples or small families looking for a base to explore the nearby Peak District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, but within easy reach of local amenities. The cosy and comfortable sitting room features a warming woodburning stove, ideal for snuggling up in front of on cold and chilly nights. A stylish and well-equipped kitchen adjoins a light and welcoming dining area with French doors that overlook the garden, a lovely space to spend time socialising and planning your next day ahead. Upstairs, the two bedrooms are beautifully presented with fine furnishings and linens, and share the stylish bathroom which boasts a freestanding roll-top bath, as well as a separate large shower unit. The rear garden with a lawned area and two patios is perfect for enjoying some peace and quiet and a well-earned drink whilst taking in the fresh country air and delightful countryside views. The market town of Penistone has a good selection of amenities including a weekly market, its own cinema, pubs, shops, restaurants and hosts the annual Penistone Show, as well as being on the route for the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire. The village of Thurlstone, just two miles away, provides some small village shops, a nice pub and has the Trans-Pennine Trail right on its doorstep, offering excellent walking and cycling with spectacular views. The nearby reservoirs of Langsett, Broomhead and Derwent, the latter being the site where the famous Dambusters raid was practised, are also well worth a visit. The area provides excellent opportunities for a variety of activities such as golf, clay pigeon shooting and pony trekking. For culture lovers there is plenty of choice to satisfy all tastes including Cannon Hall Museum Park and Gardens, Wentworth Castle, Chatsworth House, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the National Coal Mining Museum for England, all of which are easily accessible. The beautiful Peak District National Park is tantalisingly close and a little further afield is the Yorkshire Dales National Park, so you really are spoilt for choice! Alternatively, if you fancy some retail therapy, Meadowhall Retail Park in Sheffield with its 230 shops and 50 places to eat and drink, can be reached within a half hour’s drive.
