The property
Peebles 3.4 miles. Resting in the rural setting of Lyne Station, lies the beautiful Torview House. A welcoming bungalow with far-reaching countryside views, this spacious accommodation offers a wonderful setting for family celebrations in Scotland. Nestled in a tranquil and peaceful location, it’s within easy reach of Peebles—just three miles away via a scenic walk, cycle along a former railway path, or a short drive through the picturesque Borders landscape. Be welcomed into a stylish shaker-style kitchen and discover a plethora of appliances, perfect for whipping up a delicious family feast to be devoured at sociable dining table. Retire to warmth of the homely sitting room, lighting the open-fire before snuggling on the sofas and enjoying a quiet night in front of the TV. Choose to stay in one of the six well-appointed bedrooms consisting of two king-sizes, two doubles and two twins, four of which have their own en-suites. Across the way lies an additional shower room serving the final two bedrooms, as well as a well-designed bathroom where you can relax with a soak in the tub! Outside, the large enclosed garden boasts a well-manicured lawn bordered by mature shrubs—perfect for children to play, for guests to relax with a book or a glass of something chilled, or to enjoy alfresco dining in peaceful surroundings. At the bottom of the property, the garden extends to a tranquil stretch of the Lyne River, where guests can enjoy shaded seating, riverside walks, and scenic spots for picnics. This peaceful area also offers the opportunity to fish, making it a wonderful place to unwind and connect with nature. Begin your journey with a walk along the John Buchan Way, a scenic route that winds through open moorland and farmland, passing right by the cottage—an ideal base for exploring the Borders. From the doorstep, you can step straight into nature, with panoramic views and peaceful surroundings that set the tone for a relaxing or adventurous stay. Just a short drive away, Traquair House awaits. As Scotland’s oldest inhabited home, it was once a royal hunting lodge and still houses a working brewery beneath its chapel, dating back to 1700. Guided tours offer a glimpse into centuries of history, and the house also serves as a unique venue for weddings and special events. Continue your exploration with a visit to Neidpath Castle, just two miles from Peebles. This medieval stronghold, once home to generations of aristocratic Scottish families, stands proudly above the River Tweed. Its dramatic setting and weathered stonework make it a rewarding stop for photographers and a source of inspiration for artists. After taking in the views, enjoy breakfast in one of Peebles’ welcoming cafés before heading out for the day. For outdoor enthusiasts, Glentress in the Tweed Valley Forest Park offers some of the best off-road cycling and walking trails in the country. Whether you're after a gentle woodland stroll or a more challenging ride, there’s something for everyone. After your adventure, relax in the on-site café with a hot drink and a slice of cake. Wildlife lovers should keep an eye out for red squirrels, deer, and birds of prey, while experienced riders can tackle longer routes with epic climbs and thrilling descents. If relaxation is calling, Stobo Castle offers a luxurious spa experience in a grand setting. Enjoy a leisurely brunch followed by a massage, or simply unwind in the peaceful surroundings. For more walking options, the White Meldon circuit offers a scenic loop with views of the surrounding hills and a chance to pass by an Iron Age fort. Alternatively, spend a peaceful afternoon in the 19th-century Kailzie Gardens, or visit Dawyck Botanic Garden, where rare species from Nepal, China, and Chile flourish across 65 acres of woodland. Fancy a change of scene? Hop in the car and head to Edinburgh, where the medieval architecture of the Old Town contrasts beautifully with the grand Georgian buildings of the New Town. Explore the iconic Edinburgh Castle, take a guided tour of The Real Mary King’s Close, or enjoy a stroll through the Royal Botanic Garden. For panoramic views of the city, climb Calton Hill or hike through the nearby Pentland Hills Regional Park. And if the coast is calling, travel further afield to Dunbar for a refreshing day by the sea, rounding off your adventure with a perfect blend of history, nature, and discovery. Make the most of precious time with loved ones on an incredible Scottish adventure at Torview House. EPC Rating: Band D.
