Summary
A family of eight enjoyed their stay at a lovely farmhouse with great local amenities. The spacious kitchen and comfortable lounge were highlights. However, the cottage was cold upon arrival, and there were insufficient toilet rolls. Overall, it provided a charming and relaxing experience, though some repairs are needed.
The property
St Bridges Major 1.5 miles. Nestled on the award-winning Heritage Coast, in the village of Southerndown in the Vale of Glamorgan, is this inviting, detached property, Slade Cottage. Situated just a short walk from the Wales Coast Path and surrounded by organic pastureland, this holiday cottage is the perfect family base from which to explore the spectacular coastline. After a day of walking, escape to the lounge and put your feet up on the sofa, choosing something to watch from the TV. Cross over into the kitchen, where the oil-fired AGA creates a warm hub to the house, along with an assortment of appliances to assist with home-cooking. Gather at the dining table and sample the fruits of your labour, or head outside to the large garden, flourishing with spring flowers, mature trees, living willow arbours and pergolas, making it a wonderful place to relax. There is also a walled front courtyard and sheltered outdoor space where you can get the barbecue going or simply enjoy the good weather. When sleep calls, there are five well-presented bedrooms to choose from; on the ground-floor there is a twin serviced by a bathroom, whilst upstairs lies two doubles, a twin and a single, served by another family bathroom. Within a short walk is the Three Golden Cups pub, where you can reward yourself with a pint of ale after a ramble, or book a table at the Frolics for a wonderful Italian meal. For your essentials, head to St Brides Major for its well-stocked village shop and milk hut selling fresh milk from a neighbouring farm. Explore the hidden gem of Dunraven Bay, Dunraven Castle with its surrounding gardens, plus there is a local dog-friendly beach just a gentle walk away, from which you can join the scenic Heritage Coastal Path. Spend an afternoon in the famous town of Barry, home to a glorious sandy beach along with the ruins of Barry Castle, or escape further afield to Cardiff, the capital of Wales, with a host of museums and art galleries, shopping, theatre visits, rugby and football matches. There's plenty to explore whilst holidaying at Slade Cottage. Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 1134214 & 1134213, together sleeping 16 guests.
